Testing offered during Diabetes Awareness Month Screenings throughout November

Aimed to provide support and raise awareness of a disease that affects nearly 26 million adults and children across the nation, Market Street is offering multiple diabetes-centered initiatives throughout the month of November for Diabetes Awareness Month. Initiatives include free glucose screenings, an increased number of store tours focused on easy diabetes shopping and diabetes-friendly product promotions.

“According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States — accounting for 8.3 percent of the population — have diabetes,” said Robin Hawkins, director of health and wellness for United Supermarkets LLC. “Of those 25.8 million, 7 million individuals are undiagnosed.”

All Market Street locations in West Texas will offer free glucose screenings each Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. throughout the month. A free dietitian-led store tour focused on easy diabetes shopping will be offered here at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21.
