Diabetes Partnership awards scholarship
Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland and Camp Ho Mita Koda for children with diabetes have awarded Hudson resident Stephanie Treubig its 2011 scholarship. Helen M. Dumski, president and CEO of Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland, presented the $1,000 tuition scholarship to Treubig during the camp's open house in June. Treubig was selected for her volunteer work, academic excellence and community involvement.
Treubig is a recent graduate of Western Reserve Academy, where she excelled academically and received the school's Presidential Service Award for her community service. She has volunteered at Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland's annual Swim for Diabetes as well as at Camp Ho Mita Koda as a Counselor-in-Training. Treubig attended Camp Ho Mita Koda for eight years, which, she says, had a big impact on her life.
"Camp Ho Mita Koda is a place of fun and freedom ... where there is no judging, no discrimination, no teasing, and most of all, no worries," she said.
Treubig hopes to go to college and eventually become a high school math teacher.
The Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who has attended Camp Ho Mita Koda. Applicants must have a desire to continue towards an advanced degree beyond high school. He or she must excel academically and be involved in extracurricular activities. Teacher recommendations and an essay are part of the application process. Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland is a local and independent nonprofit organization providing life-long programs and services to more than 8,000 children and adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in Greater Cleveland each year.
